Back to School:
{The First Day of Preschool}
Last week Mrs T., my son’s preschool teacher, stopped by for a home visit. She brought her magic red velvet bag filled with shapes. My son picked one out.
We tied it to his school bag.
Since my husband and I are proud parents of a preschooler, we walked him to his first day of school. While I was there I took the opportunity to do a little classroom snooping. Before we even stepped into the classroom I could see from bulletin board #1 that shapes are an important part of this classroom.
Their shapes establish a sense of awareness. Each student has a cubby with their shape on it. I let my son hang his own things. I think he did a really nice job.
Students check themselves in by moving their names and shapes to the “AT SCHOOL” side of the felt board.
Mrs. T also uses shapes so her students can learn how to spell their names.
I really enjoyed looking around her room. There are a lot of colorful murals and sculptures.
My son says that he painted his shape and Mrs. T. said she was going to display them next week. I can tell my son is going to have a great time in preschool, considering since his first day, he has asked hundreds of times as to when he can go back!

It is a really good idea to give the child chance to choose their own shape and use it for their identity and beloning. Great! Brilliant!
