Martin Luther King Jr. Picture Books with Activities

With the next two weeks focusing on Dr. King, we searched some of the newest picture book ideas with activities and crafts.  A few even have mini-units and writing prompts.  Many of these ideas will be a great segue into Black History Month.

Special thanks to Crunchy with Ketchup for use of the MLK clip art.  It’s free for those of you who want to make your own resources for your Martin Luther King units…

  • Pay Mike a visit! He’s new to the teacher blogging universe.

Our Martin Luther King Jr. Emergent Reader.  The blank dream page offered in the book makes a nice bulletin board display too.

Dots n Spots has an in depth blog post on her 4th grade’s study of MLK.

Becky included this book written by King’s sister:

She followed up with one of the most innovative ideas I’ve seen on incorporating pop art, color, and perspective within a MLK/civil right study.

Thank you for these books. We watched Scholastic’s Big Words on Netflix streaming and own many of the others. I have added a link to your site from my Martin Luther King Jr resource page.

Meet the Teachers

Meet the Teachers

Back when we were both teaching, we dreamed of a website that would make lesson planning easier. We both remember late nights scouring search engine for unit ideas. After searching 1000s of blogs and sites, nothing was exactly meeting our vision: creative resources for the overworked teacher or homeschooler! So…this was born.
