Whether you teach the primary grades, intermediate, or middle school, the end of the school year is a great time to reflect with your classes about the past school year through their writing. I’ve used a “Remember When” writing activity across all grade levels. My 1st and 2nd grade students were as engaged in this end of the year writing activity as my 7th and 8th grade students.
Unlike many end of the year writing prompts, students writing their own “Remember Whens” is true narrative writing at its most authentic. Once my students completed their final drafts, I selected two remember when statements from each student and typed them up as a part of a last day of school farewell gift.
Nearly two decades later, many of my former students still remember this activity!
We’ve created a fun end of the year writing template for your own “Remember Whens” with your classrooms and homeschools.
