Hello! Welcome to the Classroom Creative. I’m Nicolette Lennert, one of the masterminds behind this fine website. I guess you clicked over to learn more about me. So, in the interest in keeping things creative, I’ll do this David Letterman style.
1.) Back in the day, before my parental sabbatical, I taught K-8 art on a cart {best gig ever}, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade remedial reading, Junior High Language Arts/Reading and Science, oh yea, and a short stint in a 4 year old preschool. I never met a grade I didn’t like. I was moved around a lot because I was the youngest on staff.
2.) In addition to this fine site, I run a crafty/parenting/gluten-free site called momnivore’s dilemma. You should follow that one too. It will bring happiness to your soul.
3.) I read children’s books for fun. And I own 1000s of books. E-readers make my eyes hurt, given that I’m blogging and on the computer so much of my day, paper books are my haven.
4.) I live in Chicago, but dream of open spaces, beach houses, and not seeing my neighbor’s nose hairs.
5.) In my spare time, I also run a small etsy shoppe TOUCH BLUE DESIGNS to sell my crafty wares. Art keeps me sane with two little ones under 5 running amok.
6.) I keep gluten-free by way of my oldest son’s special diet to help his autism. He saved my life.
7.) Let thy food be thy medicine is my life’s mantra.
8.) Before teaching, I worked as an underpaid marketing rep in the music industry before ipods and napster. This dates me, right?
9.) One day, I will run a non-profit to help other families with autism called we pick up the pieces.org
10.) I have an unholy addiction to kombucha.
here’s me now, that you know me better:
extra credit: I miss teaching. The smell of a new box of crayons. School supply shopping. Scholastic book orders. Love notes from little first graders.
That’s one of the reasons this website was born…to make those who work with children {be it teachers or parents} lives easier. Here at the classroom creative, we take the dirty work out of education. We want to help teachers and parents unearth and organize all the greatness that is on blogs in the educational field.
Thanks for reading,
Nicolette
