Back when I was teaching first, second, and third grade, word walls were one of my favorite times of my literacy block. My students adored it too. We danced. Sang. Stomped. Used flashlights. Played I spy.
Sigh.
Now, this is back before pinterest and teaching blogs when we were left to our own imaginations.
In my third grade remedial reading class, I had a Hollywood themed word wall. In second grade, it was the ocean. In first, my memory fails me.
Regardless, word walls are a critical component in ALL literacy programs. When I taught 7th grade reading, I had an interactive Latin and Greek root word bulletin board.
Point being, word walls should be in every grade level!
