Caterpillar Paper Plate Craft

The life cycle of the butterfly is a very popular insect unit among the primary grades. This caterpillar paper plate inspired craft would complement such a unit.

We read my daughter’s favorite spring book: The Very Hungry Caterpillar for inspiration. Bring the life cycle of the butterfly alive by starting with this caterpillar paper plate craft.  I provided a free printable template. Simply print, cut, and color.

  • paper plate
  • crayons markers, paint or color pencils
  • scissors

  1. Print my paper plate caterpillar template.
  2. Trace, cut, paint or color the caterpillar.
  3. Set aside to dry.
  4. Once dry, cut slits for the caterpillar legs.
  5. Bend paper plate caterpillar feet forwards and backwards.

Stay tuned for the chrysalis and butterfly paper plate stages of the butterfly life cycle.

Meet the Teachers

Meet the Teachers

Back when we were both teaching, we dreamed of a website that would make lesson planning easier. We both remember late nights scouring search engine for unit ideas. After searching 1000s of blogs and sites, nothing was exactly meeting our vision: creative resources for the overworked teacher or homeschooler! So…this was born.
